Wisdom Collective Worship! (Focus on 'Seeking Help')

This fun and original collective worship aids children in understanding the value of wisdom. It was delivered as the first in a series of three worship sessions on wisdom (available as a Bundle) although it works equally as well as a standalone session. In this session, a particular focus is placed on defining wisdom and understanding that wisdom sometimes means seeking support from others, to help us to make wise choices. This is achieved through: -Defining wisdom and thinking about how we can show the characteristics of being wise; -Identifying times in which we might need to seek support; -Reading and understanding a child-friendly reading of 1 Kings 3:3–15; 2 Chronicles 1:1–13 in which KIng Solomon asks God for wisdom; -Analysing a bible quote from proverbs about the value of seeking advice; -Relating these teachings to the lives of the children - considering how they can seek support both in their learning and at break/ lunchtimes (without relying too much on their teachers/ adults!); -Singing a hymn relating to seeking support and reflecting through prayer. The session includes a comprehensive, engaging PowerPoint presentation, a hyperlink to the necessary hymn, and both a PDF and Word copy of the script for the fable. There are also various discussion prompts to enable children to consider how wisdom and seeking support can aid us throughout our lives. The slides are fairly self-explanatory, but I’ve included guiding notes to assist the speaker. Hope that you find this useful!

It was delivered as a part of a series of three worship sessions on wisdom (available as a bundle), but works equally well as a standalone worship session. This is achieved through: -Recalling the definition of wisdom and thinking about how we can show the characteristics of being wise; -Thinking about what the word ‘hazard’ means and discussing what we know about hazards; -Watching a video of a reading of Psalms 23 (hyperlinked) and discussing the literal and figurative meanings of the Lord being our ‘shepherd’ and helping us to stay safe in the face of dangers; -Relating these teachings to the modern world - discussing how we can overcome the hazards that we face in our own lives (through the ideas of preventing, avoiding and overcoming); -Singing a hymn relating to the Lord guiding us through life, before reflecting through prayer. The session includes a comprehensive, engaging PowerPoint presentation and a hyperlink to the necessary video and hymn. There are also various discussion prompts to enable children to consider how wisdom and seeking support can aid us throughout our lives. In this engaging lesson, children are provided with an introductory understanding of the Anglo-Saxons, through learning: -who the Anglo-Saxons were and when they lived; -how they invaded and inhabited England; -the names and basic features of the seven Anglo-Saxon kingdoms. The learning is guided by a clear and colourful PowerPoint presentation, which guides students through the following step-by-step journey: -Knowledge harvesting - gauging what children already know about the Anglo-Saxon era, and gathering what else they would like to know; -Answering recall questions based upon the areas of history that they have learnt previously that are pertinent to this topic; -Defining who the Anglo-Saxons were and when they lived; -Watching an informative video providing some of the basic facts about Anglo-Saxon life, and then answering questions to show their understanding; -Learning about how they invaded England, and after much fighting split the land into seven kingdoms; -Completing a map-based activity to show where the kingdoms were and who lived there; -Completing plenary activities to demonstrate their understanding of each of the concepts learnt in the lesson; -Self-reflecting on the extent to which they feel they have met the learning objective. Included is the comprehensive PowerPoint presentation (around 20 slides), the map template (in both Word and PDF) and the hyperlink to the video. In the past, I have used this lesson with children in upper KS2 (years 5 and 6) - the key learning is aligned with curriculum expectations for history. All images are licensed for commercial use.

These well-designed, easy to use teacher quality trackers allow teaching and learning leaders to monitor the quality of teaching across their departments/ schools over time, focusing on the triangulated performance indicators of: Lesson Observations/Learning Walks, Book/Folder Monitoring, and Pupil Progress. Users can easily view changes in individual, department, key stage, and whole school teaching and learning quality over time. The tool is automatically formatted to colour code entries from the codes 1 (Outstanding = Green) to 4 (Inadequate = Red) Each entry also updates the ‘average school performance’ table, which in turn alters the line graph showing quality over time. This enables leaders to easily identify trends in performance data. Furthermore, there is also space in which users can give details of CPD sessions and interventions, in order to a provide a foundation to evaluate their impact. Individual pages are provided for observations, book monitoring, and pupil progress. ‘3 captures per year’ and ‘6 captures per year’ versions are provided, to allow for schools that measure quality at variable intervals.

This resource pack contains two engaging lessons developing children’s understanding of computers and information technology. They were designed as the third and fourth lessons in a 6-lesson scheme on computer systems and networks (aimed at children in lower key stage 2). The two lessons included are: 1.Computers and I.T. in the World Around Us Learning Objective: -Understanding how information technology is used in the world around us. Success Criteria: -I can list some examples of IT in the home; -I can understand how IT makes some jobs easier or better; -I can explain some advantages and disadvantages of using computers for writing tasks. 2.Connecting Computers Learning Objective: -Understanding how and why computers are connected. Success Criteria: -I know what the words ‘connection’ and ‘network’ mean. -I understand why connections and networks are useful. -I can explain the role of a network switch. The learning is guided by a clear and comprehensive PowerPoint presentation (30 slides in total) and all of the worksheets/ templates needed for the activities. This resource booklet contains a wide range of age-appropriate and engaging comprehension activities for use throughout the reading of T.H. White’s 'The Sword in the Stone.’ Teachers have found them particularly useful in comprehension or guided reading sessions. They are perfect for aiding the progress of children towards meeting the KS2 expectations within the new National Curriculum framework. Children love learning from these resources, whilst they are also of great use to teachers, as there is explicit information within each task regarding which comprehension strands the task is designed to demonstrate. They also relate to key extracts, characters, and themes from the story, ensuring that children gain a deep understanding of the text. This lesson enables students to gain a detailed insight into how the social and historical context of post-apartheid South Africa influences J.M. Coetzee’s Disgrace. In particular, students learn about how power and patriarchy, two key themes in the novel, are heavily informed by real-life features of South African society. They demonstrate strong communication skills in making clear and sustained links between the features of context and the text. The lesson follows a step-by-step learning journey, in which students learn through: Defining ‘patriarchy’ and understanding the key features of patriarchal society; Reading and comprehending a key news article outlining the key features of ‘macho’ South African society; Linking their understanding of context to the key elements of the text; Considering how the nature of patriarchal society affects different people in society.
